A time-based ancestor chart, the Fan Chart plots individual birth dates in a fan shape across a timeline.

The subject is located in the center of the chart in green. The paternal ancestors are displayed on the left in blue, and maternal ancestors are shown on the right in pink.

Birth and death dates can optionally be displayed after names in Life Bars. Ahnentafel numbers can also be included, although not shown in this chart.

We see from this chart that John Adams was born in 1691.

The Timeline is located at the bottom of the chart and is divided into two parts, marked by a center dot. The first section goes forward in time, while the second section goes backward.
