I am using FTM 2012. I can not get MMFT to find or recognise my .ftm files. It works If I export the file as a gedIcom.

Map My Family Tree is currently unable to read .ftm files due to the extensive changes that Ancestry had made to their latest versions. At the moment there are no current plans to upgrade Map My Family Tree to read .ftm files directly. In order to read these files you will need to continue exporting your genealogy data to GEDCOM format.

I have just purchased the software and discovered that I have the same problem as Chris. I think it’s misleading to advertise the program as being able to read any Family Tree Maker datafiles without having to first create a Gedcom file. The fact that the program could apparently do this was one of the main reasons I purchased it so it is very disappointing to find out that this is not in fact true. I believe that Family Tree Maker has not used .ftw files for some time – I have used Family Tree Maker for well over 12 months and all my files are .ftm files. I suggest it would be better to identify the Family Tree Maker versions that this does work with and advertise it as such.

We are truly sorry for this inconvenience. We do,however, state this on our web site:

http://progenygenealogy.com/products/...

Ancestry releases a new version of Family Tree Maker at least once each year. When they changed to .ftm files instead of .ftw files, they also changed their programming. MMFT no longer required quick "tweaking", but rather, large changes that would require major testing.

1. It would be frustrating for our customers to have to update MMFT each time.
2. We don't have the resources necessary to do this each year.
3. Progeny would either have to lose revenue on this or charge customers for the updates.

This seemed to work best.
